The Alícia Foundation is a research centre that focuses its efforts on technological innovation in cuisine and the appreciation of food products. Its research, based on scientific rigor, into how to improve the quality of life from the food and to provide solutions for people with special dietary needs, has been highlighted as a model on a worldwide level.
The best location was Bages. Firstly, they came upon the initiative of the Caixa Manresa Foundation and in a cultural project of regional dynamics like Món Sant Benet. After, for the centrality, the geographical connection and the implementation in an area with a long tradition of food. Alícia is a global leader in research on gastronomy and food that also educates children and adults on good habits in the immediate environment.
Alícia means “alimentation and science”, it is dedicated to this: scientific investigation in a way which everyone, regardless of the limitations of each one, can eat better from a health and sustainability point of view.
With the committed support of prestigious chef Ferran Adrià and other leading chefs like Joan Roca or Carme Ruscalleda, with the collaboration of doctors and scientists of the calibre of Valentí Fuster, Josep Baselga, Ramon Gomis, Bonaventura Clotet, Eudald Carbonell, among others, and developing joint projects with research centres and universities of excellence like Harvard, the board of the Alícia Foundation consists of the Generalitat de Catalunya (the Autonomous Government of Catalonia) and the Social Services of CatalunyaCaixa. Alícia tries to be and is a world leader in the field of applied research in gastronomy and a space for the creation of social awareness of the importance of food. Alícia also actively collaborates with Bages academic institutions.
The best chefs in the world have visited this technological centre, which is found in Bages, rooted in the land where food comes from and where there is a long tradition of food industry. At the same time, a good connection with Barcelona allows Alícia to be near to one of the major decision centres in Europe, plus one of the major gastronomy capitals in the world.
